Latvian state enterprise Latvenergo reports that on Friday, the 30th of December, a three-phase 110 kV transformer was delivered to Ukraine. It will be used to help restore the country’s energy infrastructure after Russian missile attacks.
Responding to Ukraine’s request, Latvenergo made the decision to donate the three-phase 110 kV transformer to the country. This piece of equipment, which weighs 54 tonnes is the reserve transformer of Daugava hydro electric power plant. It was restored and maintained in excellent condition, making it useful to maintain energy infrastructure.
At the end of November 2022 a donation agreement was signed with the Ukrainian government. Latvenergo ensured preservation and preparation of aforementioned equipment for transportation. To ensure the transformer’s delivery to Ukraine, the company cooperated with the State Fire and Rescue Service and international institutions – Energy Community Secretariat and European Union Emergency Response Coordination Centre (which coordinated the delivery to Ukraine), as well as Polish strategic reserves agency.
The delivery of the transformed was financed by the EU Civil Protection Mechanism.
Director of the Energy Community Secretariat Artur Lorkowski stresses: «Thanks to Latvenergo’s generosity, this 110 kV transformer will help ensure stability of the power network for tens of thousands of families suffering from shortage of electricity this winter.»
