KNAB: Vaivods may have offered a bribe to another Latvian official

The criminal case as part of which the Corruption Prevention and Combating Bureau (KNAB) performed investigative actions at Riga City Council’s Department for Spatial Planning and Mobility on Monday concerns a possible large bribe offer, LETA was told by KNAB.
KNAB reports that the acting chief of the department in question may have offered a large bribe to another state official in exchange for a specific decision to serve his interests.

KNAB commenced the criminal procedure on the 8th of January.

Two persons involved in the criminal procedure have the right to defence. One person has been presented with security measures that do not involve deprivation of freedom, KNAB notes.
Authorities note that the pre-trial investigation does not concern the day-to-day operations of the Department for Spatial Planning and Mobility.
LETA previously reported that after KNAB arrived at the department Vaivods was replaced by Traffic Organization and Project Management Board chief Rudīte Reveliņa in the post of acting chief of the department.
In response to events of Monday, Riga City Council opposition faction Harmony invited both Mayor of Riga Vilnis Ķirsis and the head of the Traffic and Transport Affairs Committee Olafs Pulks to step down.
