Holiday weather: sunny start, followed by wind and rain

On May 1st, Latvia will enjoy a mostly dry day with plenty of sunshine, although clouds may occasionally obscure the sun. Winds will gradually ease and remain light throughout the day. Daytime temperatures will rise to between +8°C and +13°C, according to the Latvian Environment, Geology and Meteorology Centre.

On Friday, a band of precipitation will move in from the west, bringing rain to most parts of the country, with occasional thunderstorms in some areas. Rain will subside by Saturday morning, with only scattered light showers expected during the day. Winds from the south and southwest will gradually strengthen on Friday, with gusts reaching 15–19 m/s — a blustery pattern that will continue into Saturday across parts of the country.

Overnight into Friday, frost is expected across a broader area in eastern Latvia, while temperatures in the west and along the coast will generally drop to between +2°C and +6°C. By Saturday night, temperatures will be milder, ranging between +5°C and +10°C.

During daylight hours, maximum air temperatures will reach +12°C to +17°C, slightly cooler along the coast. However, on May 2nd, temperatures in some areas may climb close to +20°C.

Current forecasts suggest that while the holiday weekend will start off warmer and drier, it will turn cooler and wetter as it progresses. The cooler trend is expected to continue into the start of next week, though rainfall amounts should begin to decrease.
