Harmony’s faction in Riga City Council believes it is unacceptable to take EUR 2 131 899 from the reserve fund and divert this money towards dismantling of the Soviet Victory Monument in Victory Park, as reported by Harmony’s deputies in the city council.
Members of the faction instead propose diverting this money towards the city’s social budget, so that «there is an opportunity to support Riga’s residents and the centre that supports Ukrainian residents, who continue arriving in Riga every day».
According to members of this party, money from the reserve fund are intended for emergencies, not removal of monuments.
«Monuments can wait. They don’t need to eat and the don’t need heating,» members of Harmony faction in Riga City Council argue.
Members of the party stress the main priority now should be people, not stones.
«We must think about ways to help people here and now, because what we have now is a de facto state of emergency in the energy sector,» Harmony members stress.
