Frost, wet snow, and a northern wind: a chilly spring weekend ahead

On Friday, skies will be partly cloudy with occasional sunshine, and light rain is expected in some areas. A light to moderate northerly wind will blow, reaching gusts of up to 14 m/s during the day. Overnight, as temperatures drop to between 0°C and -2°C, widespread frost is expected, though in some places the temperature will remain between +1°C and +6°C. Daytime highs will range from +7°C to +12°C, according to the Latvian Environment, Geology and Meteorology Centre.

Over the weekend, rain is expected in some areas, mainly in the east, with wet snow possible in certain locations. The northerly wind will persist, strengthening on Saturday with gusts reaching 15–16 m/s, but it will gradually ease by Sunday, becoming light.

Frost is expected in most parts of the country, with temperatures dropping to 0°C to -4°C, while only some coastal areas will stay slightly above freezing. During the day, temperatures will rise to +6°C to +11°C.

At the beginning of next week, warmer air will gradually move into Latvia, bringing daytime temperatures back up to +10°C to +16°C, while nighttime temperatures will hold at +3°C to +8°C. However, frost may still occur in eastern regions overnight into Monday. Rain is possible on some days, and wind gusts will return.
