On Saturday, a farewell ceremony was held in the Vatican for Pope Francis, who passed away earlier this week at the age of 88. After the funeral Mass in St. Peter’s Square, he was laid to rest at the Basilica of Saint Mary Major in Rome.
Following the service, Pope Francis’s casket was transported to the Basilica of Saint Mary Major, where he was buried.
The funeral gathered representatives from more than 170 countries, including the President of Latvia, Edgars Rinkēvičs. The ceremony was also attended by former U.S. President Donald Trump, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, Argentine President Javier Milei, and many other world leaders.
Pope Francis led the Catholic Church from 2013 and was the first pope from Latin America.
