Epidemiologists uncover the first case of monkey pox in Latvia

The first case of money pox has been confirmed in the Republic of Latvia, as reported by Disease Prevention and Monitoring Centre (SPKC).
Epidemiologists explain that epidemiological investigation of this case continues.
The patient is in the under 50 years age group. The illness is progressing lightly. The patient is hospitalised and is under constant monitoring. Infection is confirmed to have happened abroad.

The monkey pox is a rare viral infection commonly found in Central and Western African countries.

The natural infection vector of this disease remains unknown, but the virus was previously confirmed in some rodents and monkeys. The virus is also known to pass to humans from those animals. Cases of money pox were previously confirmed among people who visited Africa or had imported animals from there. Monkey pox incubation period (the period of time between infection and symptoms appearing) ranges from five to 21 days.
