Very tight restrictions would not be effective currently, said epidemiologist and specialist of Latvian National Health Service Vaccination Project Office Ņikita Trojanskis in an interview to LTV programme Šodienas jautājums on 25 January.
According to him, adoption of tight restrictions or curfew would result with yet another wave of infections later in spring. Trojanskis believes restrictions have to be reasonable to prevent overloading of hospitals.
The epidemiologist also invites residents to get booster shots of Covid-19 vaccines to ensure better protection against Covid-19.
General practitioner Ainis Dzalbs agrees with him noting that very tight restrictions would not be effective. «Restrictions should be reasonable to make sure all people do not get infected immediately and the general infection rate manageable,» said Dzalbs.
He said the situation with general practitioners is currently very tense, demand for services is higher than what general practitioners are able to provide.
Dzalbs says Latvian Association of General Practitioners has asked the Ministry of Health to send medical students to assist with general practice in February and March. At the same time, Dzalbs said even if this is done, doctors will not be able to service all patients.
