Latvian political party New Unity has officially submitted its list of candidates for the upcoming European Parliament elections. The party’s slogan for elections will be “Europe’s experience for a safe Latvia!”.
The party’s leading candidates are Latvia’s representative in the European Commission Valdis Dombrovskis and Minister of Foreign Affairs Krišjānis Kariņš.
Latvian MEPs will be participating in EP elections as well. These include Sandra Kalniete, Inese Vaidere and Dace Melbārde. Nearly all candidates have experience working in the Saeima or European Parliament, the party notes.
New Unity’s team for EP elections consists of the following candidates: Valdis Dombrovskis, Krišjānis Kariņš, Sandra Kalniete, Inese Vaidere, Dace Melbārde, Andrejs Judins, Jānis Reirs, Zanda Kalniņa-Lukaševica, Irma Kalniņa, Anna Rancāne, Mārtiņš Daģis, Jānis Lazdāns, Māris Baltiņš, Pauls Adijans, Janīna Kursīte, Antra Grīnberga, Didzis Šēnbergs and Uģis Rotbergs.
“We are a team – we’re not a one-man party. We also have many leaders – smart, capable and patriotic people. Together, we can shine not only for Latvia, but for Europe and the world as well,” comments Minister of Health Hosams Abu Meri.
“In cooperation with our partners we have accomplished the start EU accession talks with Ukraine and Moldova, as well as decisions on long-term financial support for Ukraine. These are very important decisions for Latvia’s future safety. It is in the power of New Unity’s candidates to ensure Latvia’s vote in Europe is loud and focused on constructive solutions,” adds the party’s board member, Prime Minister Evika Siliņa.
“This is a special moment with elections around the corner. We are preparing our best team to send to Europe. The team is already experienced. Members don’t need adaptation time. They know what needs to be done. There is a war in Europe. Governments are looking for ways to restore people’s welfare after a very intense period of inflation, as well as ensure Europe’s economic competitiveness. We are prepared,” says the chairman of the board of the political party, Minister of Finance Arvils Ašeradens.
