CSP: unemployment in Latvia in decline

In September 2021 actual unemployment rate in Latvia comprised 6.4 %, which is 0.5 percentage points less than in August. The actual unemployment rate in the country has not been so low since December 2019 (6.6 %).
The unemployment rate for females decreased by 0.3 percentage points to 5.4 % in September, but for males by 0.6 percentage points to 7.5 %, according to data of the Labour Force Survey (LFS) conducted by the Central Statistical Bureau (CSP).
The unemployment rate registered with the State Employment Agency (SEA) was 6.0 %, which is 0.5 percentage points lower than in August.
Compared to September of the previous year, the actual unemployment rate has decreased by 1.6 percentage points, the registered unemployment rate – by 1.7 percentage points.
In September 2021, there were 60.4 thousand unemployed persons in Latvia (25.1 thousand females and 35.3 thousand males), which is 4.3 thousand less than in August and 17.3 thousand less than in the corresponding period last year. During the month, the number of unemployed females has decreased by 1.7 thousand, males – by 2.6 thousand.
The registered unemployment rate at the SEA is calculated using the data on the registered unemployed persons available to the agency and the data provided by the CSB on the active population (employed and unemployed persons). SEA data concerns only the population of working age. Unadjusted monthly estimates of the survey are used for calculations of the actual unemployment rate.
