Yesterday the biggest cumulative Covid-19 index was observed in Latvia since the start of May. The number of cases increased from 2287.2 to 302.4 per 100 000 residents, according to data from the Disease Prevention and Monitoring Centre (SPKC).
The last time the number of infections was above 300 was 5 May 2022, when the 14-day cumulative index was 304.7.
A total of 2 862 Covid-19 tests were performed, of which 24% turned out positive. In 282 of 685 newly-discovered cases people were either not vaccinated or had not yet completed their vaccination course. 403 were vaccinated for Covid-19.
The two-week Covid-19 cumulative index in Latvia has increased from 287.2 to 302.4 per 100 000 residents.
The seven-day cumulative index has increased from 177.9 to 181.5 per 100 000 residents.
In the last 24 hours information was received about four deaths from Covid-19. One victim was 50 to 69 years old, two were 70 to 79 years, and another was 80 to 89 years old. Of the dead, one was unvaccinated and three were vaccinated for Covid-19.
On 5 July the National Health Service reported 147 hospitalisations. For 68 Covid-19 was the main diagnosis.
A total of 5 866 Covid-19 patients have died in Latvia so far.
SPKC previously reported that there may be a discrepancy in the data regarding the deaths. The reason is because this information is usually reported with a delay. SPKC mainly receives information about deaths from hospitals and nursing homes.
On top of that there is also the situation with people for whom Covid-19 was a contributing rather than the main factor to their deaths.

Since the start of the pandemic, Covid-19 has been found in 838 557 residents in Latvia.
