Last weekend, weather conditions were influenced by the south-eastern edge of a cyclone, bringing rain to almost the entire country and gusty winds along the coast. Similar conditions will continue at the beginning of this week, with thunderstorms also possible in some areas. New cyclones will approach Latvia around the middle of the week, while towards the weekend the growing influence of high-pressure systems will bring more pleasant weather, according to the Latvian Environment, Geology and Meteorology Centre.
On Monday, the 21st bof September, skies will be cloudy with occasional clearer spells. Periods of rain are expected across most of the country, with heavy downpours and possible thunderstorms in some areas. Light to moderate south-westerly and westerly winds will prevail, with coastal gusts reaching 15–17 m/s overnight.
Overnight temperatures will fall to +9°C to +14°C. During the day, maximum temperatures will reach +13°C to +17°C.
Rain is expected in many areas overnight into Tuesday, with locally heavy downpours and thunderstorms possible. During the day, rain will be limited to some areas and there will also be sunny spells.
Fog will thicken in eastern Latvia overnight and in the morning, reducing visibility.
Light to moderate westerly and north-westerly winds will prevail, turning northerly and north-westerly during the second half of the night.
Overnight temperatures will fall to +7°C to +10°C, while coastal areas will be warmer at +11°C to +14°C. During the day, temperatures will rise to +14°C to +17°C.
On Wednesday, skies will initially be partly cloudy but will gradually become overcast from the east as a precipitation zone crosses Latvia from the east, bringing rain to many areas.
Light to moderate north-westerly and northerly winds will prevail, with gusts reaching 15 m/s along the coast. During the day, winds will ease in eastern regions, becoming light and variable.
Minimum overnight temperatures will range from +8°C to +11°C, and from +11°C to +14°C along the coast. Daytime highs will reach +12°C to +16°C.
Towards the end of the working week, temperatures will remain similar, although daytime highs will reach only around +15°C. Rainy weather will continue, with locally heavy downpours possible, while coastal areas will experience gusty winds.
Over the weekend, precipitation will ease, winds will gradually weaken and daytime temperatures will become slightly warmer.
