A military coup is possible in Moscow; army vehicles are seen on the city streets, said Abbas Galyamov, politologist and speech writer to Vladimir Putin during his term as PM, in an interview to Ukrainian TV, as reported by LA.lv.
He claims the situation in the Kremlin is tense and that the possibility of a coup is entirely possible.
«I have many friends and acquaintances there – they are saying yes. Pedestrians walking on the Frunze embankment, where the Ministry of Defence stands, say there are many army vehicles or infantry combat vehicles,» Galyamov said.
The politologist also referenced reports from western press, which previously reported the deployment of special forces of the Ministry for the Interior to Moscow.
The expert claims, this was done to «cool off» generals whose «blood is starting to boil».
«Relations within Russia’s government are heated. Everyone is looking for extremists, everyone is looking for ways to save the situation. They understand the situation is not going as planned. They’re passing guilt to one another,» Galyamov continued.
LA.lv also reports that, based on the claims from politologist Galyamov, Russia’s government is unable to unite because there is no consolidating factor.
Russia no longer has a strong leader because everyone can see that Putin is becoming weaker, he claims.
In the past there were no public accusations addressed to the army headquarters or the government in Russia.
According to Galyamov, Kremlin is in hot water. At some point mutual accusations in mass media and social networks may transition to a military dimension.
«Cracks between the political government and executive power, bureaucracy in general, military officials and even special services have spread widely in all directions. This is why the possibility of a military coup is not impossible,» Galyamov concluded.
