A new cyclone approaches Latvia; weather to become windier

On Wednesday, the 14th of October, the sky will be mostly cloudy. Fog will thicken in some areas during the night and morning hours. Light rain is expected in places overnight, but a broader precipitation zone will reach Kurzeme in the morning and cross the country during the day, bringing intermittent rain to many areas, according to the Latvian Environment, Geology and Meteorology Centre.

A light to moderate southerly wind will blow; from midday, the wind in Kurzeme will shift to the west. As a new cyclone approaches Latvia from the west, the wind will strengthen along the coast, with southeasterly and southerly gusts reaching 15–16 m/s. Overnight, temperatures will drop to +3…+7°C (+7…+10°C on the coast), while daytime highs will reach +9…+13°C.

On Thursday, the sky will be cloudy with occasional clear spells.

Rain is expected in many areas overnight, though brief showers will occur only in isolated spots during the day.

Winds will be light, although a light to moderate northwesterly to northerly wind—with gusts up to 15 m/s—will persist along the coast overnight. Fog will form in some areas during the night and morning, reducing visibility. At night, the air will cool to +4…+7°C—remaining a few degrees warmer along the coast—while daytime temperatures will rise to +10…+13°C.

Calm and steady weather conditions are expected towards the end of the week and into the beginning of the next: the rain will cease, the sun will appear at times, and gusty winds will subside. Nights will be cool, with temperatures dropping to +1…+4°C in some areas, while daytime highs will reach +9…+14°C.
