Majority of Ukrainian refugees in Latvia employed in the industrial sector

Since January 2022 a total of 34.7 thousand Ukrainian citizens have arrived and registered their residence in Latvia. The majority of them – 22.1 thousand (63.8%) – are women and 12.6 thousand (36.2%) are men.
Of the Ukrainian citizens that have arrived in Latvia so far 11.9 thousand (34.4%) are children under the age of 18 years. 3.9 thousand of them (11.3%) are children of pre-school age and 9.0 thousand (23.1%) are aged 7-17 years.

28.8% of Ukrainian refugees are under work age (0-14 years), 64.9% are of work age (15-64 years), and 6.3% are 65 years or older.

70.7% of Ukrainian women and 54.9% of men that have arrived in Latvia since the start of the year are of working age, according to data from the Central Statistical Bureau of Latvia.
According to data from the State Revenue Service, in May nearly 5 thousand Ukrainian citizens were registered in Latvia as employed.
The majority of Ukrainian citizens who have registered in Latvia as employed persons are employed in the industrial sector – 21.6%, followed by commerce, automobile and motorcycle repairs (17.2%), as well as accommodation and catering sectors – 17.0%. 8.9% are employed in insurance, research, administrative services and real estate, as well as 7.7% of them are employed in the construction sector.
31.4% of Ukrainians are employed in other jobs – office, hotel and other cleaners, kitchen workers, shop assistants and others. 16.6% are employed as service and trade workers, 12.3% are employed as craftsmen, and 0.3% are employed as drivers.
