Japan’s Shinzo Abe shot during a pre-election rally

During a political rally in Nara prefecture on Friday, 8 July, Japan’s ex-prime minister Shinzo Abe was shot dead, as reported by local media.
67-year-old Abe was shot during his speech prior to Sunday’s expected parliament elections, as reported by NHL and Kyodo agency.
After getting shot, blood appeared on Abe’s neck and he fell to the ground, Jiji agency was told by a source in the former prime minister’s Liberal Democratic Party (LDP).
Neither LDP nor the local police provide comments.
NKH and Kyodo report that when Abe was delivered to a hospital he showed no signs of life.
Shinzo Abe was Japan’s longest-serving prime minister. He remained in office between 2012 and 2020.
