In April 2022 the number of foreign and resident visitors comprised 145 thousand, which is 2.8 times more than in April 2021. As compared to April last year, the number of nights spent by visitors comprised 264.7 thousand, which is 2.6 times more.
In the four months of this year, the number of foreign and resident visitors comprised 421.5 thousand, which is 2.3 times more than in the four months of 2021, as well as 2.1 % more than in the four months of 2020.
However, compared to the time before the pandemic – first four months of 2019, in the four months of this year there was a decrease of 36.7 % in the number of visitors hosted, according to the data of the Central Statistical Bureau of Latvia.
In April 2022, out of all foreign visitors 50.9 % or 73.8 thousand were foreign visitors, which is 8.6 times more than in April 2021. The number of nights spent by foreign visitors, compared to April last year, has grown 7.1 time and comprised 143.7 thousand. The average length of stay of foreign visitors comprised 1.9 nights.
The majority of foreign visitors came from Lithuania (11.3 thousand), Estonia (10.9 thousand), Germany (7.5 thousand), United Kingdom (5.1 thousand), Finland (4.1 thousand), Russia (2.8 thousand), Poland (2.8 thousand) and Ukraine (2.8 thousand).
Most foreign visitors stayed in Riga (80.3 %), Jūrmala (8.3 %) and Liepāja (2.5 %).
In April 2022, 71.2 thousand Latvian residents were hosted at tourist accommodation establishments, which is 63.4 % more than April 2021. The number of nights spent by them comprised 121 thousand, and it rose by 45.2 %, compared to April last year.
Latvian visitors stayed mostly in Riga (29.5 %), Jūrmala (14.3 %), Liepāja (7.8 %), Cēsis municipality (4.9 %), Sigulda municipality (4.5 %), Kuldīga municipality (4.1 %) and Daugavpils (3.5 %).
