On Wednesday, April 27, the Ukrainian Armed forces announced an attack on the Black Sea Zmiiny Island (Snake Island), which has been occupied by the Russian Armed Forces since the start of the war. Russian officials have said that a fire has broken out in an ammunition depot on its territory near Ukraine. Kyiv has counted over 1 300 missiles that have been shot at Ukraine since February 24, Ukrainian public broadcaster Ukrinform, British public broadcaster BBC and Belarusian Nexta TV report.
On Wednesday morning, the Ukrainian Armed Forces have said they have struck the enemy positions on Zmiiny Island, hitting a command post and destroying Strela-10 surface-to-air missile system. The island in the Black Sea was invaded by Russian troops at the start of the war.
Elsewhere in the south, over the past 24 hours the strategically important railway bridge across the Dniester Estuary has been repeatedly hit by Russian missiles.
Russia continued to focus on offensive operations in the eastern Donbas region in order to establish full control over the territory of Donetsk and Luhansk regions and maintain the invaded land corridor with the occupied Crimea. The invading forces were most active in Slobozhansky and Donetsk and made some territorial gains, Ukrinform reports.
Strategic objects in Russia continue to catch fire
Continuing a trend of fires breaking out at strategic and military objects in Russia near its border with Ukraine, an ammunition depot in the Belgorod region caught fire. Governor of Belgorod Oblast Vyacheslav Gladkov reported early on April 27 that an ammunition depot was on fire near the village of Staraya Nelidovka, less than 20 miles from the Ukrainian border, The Kyiv Independent and Nexta TV report.
Rain of missiles
Ukrainian Deputy Defence Minister Hanna Maliar has stated that Russia has fired more than 1,300 missiles on Ukraine since February 24. «According to our data, their reserves have already more than halved since they have been actively using them since February 24. Μore than 1,000 rockets have already been used. To be more precisely, more than 1,300 missiles,» Maliar noted.
The Ukrainian Deputy Defence Minister added that these have been sea-, air-, and ground-launched missiles. According to her, however, Russian occupation forces still have enough missiles in Russia to cause serious damage.
Zelenskyy blames explosions in Transnistria on Russia
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has said Russian «special services» had organised a series of blasts in a pro-Russian breakaway region of Moldova, which neighbours Ukraine to the south-west.
The region’s Russian-backed separatist government has raised its terrorism level to red alert.
