Day 33 of war in Ukraine: Invaders trying to break Kyiv defence lines, missiles fly from Belarus

On Monday, March 28, the Ukrainian Armed Forces continued to actively defend areas around the capital, Kyiv, under attack from the Russian Armed Forces. Missiles continued to fly from Belarus and the Ukrainian leadership was looking forward to talks with Russia to end the war and regain whole territory of Ukraine, Ukrinform reports.
According to the Monday morning report of the General Staff of the Ukrainian Armed Forces on the military situation and changes in the last 24 hours, the defenders of Kyiv were holding back Russian troops that were attempting to break through Ukrainian defence lines from the northwest and the east.
«The group of forces and means defending the city of Kyiv is holding back the enemy, which is trying to break through our defence lines from the northwest and the east in order to take control of key roads and settlements,» the General Staff wrote.
Defensive battles continued in the south of north-eastern Kharkiv oblast, eastern Donetsk oblast and in the south-east of Ukraine to holding back the advance of the Russian Armed forces towards the settlements of Huliaipole and Zaporizhia.

In the south, Ukrainian forces were focusing their main efforts on organizing the defence of Kryvyi Rih, Zaporizhia and Mykolaiv, keeping control of sections of the sea coast, as well as protecting critical infrastructure.
In the eastern Donetsk and Luhansk directions, Ukrainian forces claimed to have repelled five enemy attacks in the past 24 hours and having destroyed two tanks, an infantry fighting vehicle and a vehicle. The enemy also suffered losses.
In the north-western Volyn oblast, the situation was under control, while it stayed dangerous with rockets flying in from Belarus.
The Ukrainian Air Force destroyed four aircraft, one helicopter, two drones of various types and two cruise missiles in the past day, reported the General Staff of the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
Ukrainian military leadership continued not to reveal its own losses in military capabilities and personnel, which has been the case for the most part of the month-long war
Missiles target oil depot region bordering Poland
The head of the Volyn Regional Military Administration Yuriy Pohuliayko said that Russian troops had launched missile strikes on an oil depot in Volyn oblast, which borders Belarus to the north and Poland to the east.
«Rescuers are still working on the site of the missile strike. According to preliminary data, there are no victims,» Pohuliayko posted on Telegram, Ukrinform reported. According to the head of the Volyn Regional Military Administration a missile was fired from the territory of Belarus and flew at low altitude, so radars could not detect it.
Zelenskyy looking forward to Russia talks in Turkey
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky stated that he was looking forward to talks with Russia to end the war and emphasised that his goal was to regain Ukrainian control of the whole of its territory.
