UK news about lorry driver shortage, triggers panic buying of fuel. Seeing some petrol stations run out of the resource London Mayor Sadiq Khan has called on the government to deploy army for driving fuel lorries, British news portal The Guardian reports.
In an interview with British Times Radio on Monday, September 27, the London Mayor evaluated that the situation in London was not good, with some petrol stations running out of fuel, and big queues at those which do have stocks.
«It’s really important that the government finally gets a grip. They should have been getting the army ready days ago. (..) One of the reasons people are panic buying, when you speak to them, is they don’t believe the government when they say there’s no fuel shortage,» Khan explained.

The British government has discussed the deployment of the army, yet another measure has been taken. According to the UK public broadcaster BBC, the government is to suspend competition law to allow oil firms to target fuel deliveries at petrol stations following recent panic buying.
UK officials have noted the move would make it easier for companies to share information and prioritise parts of the country most at need. However, a British minister noted that there were no plans to bring in the army to drive tankers, BBC reports.
