Tallinn Airport handled nearly 390,000 passengers in August, the best monthly figure in the airport’s history, and 16% more than in August last year, writes ERR News.
In the first eight months of 2026, the airport handled 2.54 million passengers, or 11% more than in the same period last year. The increase in passenger traffic was mainly driven by the entry of low-cost airline Wizz Air. In August, Wizz Air handled 18% of the total number of passengers and offered nine destinations. The Latvian airline airBaltic maintained its position, carrying 29% of Tallinn Airport’s passengers. In total, 19 airlines offer flights from Tallinn to more than 50 destinations.
Tallinn Airport Board Member Eero Pärgmäe said that the record set in August shows that demand for flights is still high. He said that in the winter season (from the end of October), the number of routes will decrease compared to the summer, as usual, but it will still be possible to reach 39 destinations with direct flights and conveniently reach Europe’s largest airports to continue their journey.
The majority (94%) of passengers in August used regular routes, while the remaining six percent were charter flights – mainly to Antalya, but also to Greek resorts, Montenegro and Bulgaria.
The most popular flights were to Warsaw, followed by Helsinki, Riga, Frankfurt and Stockholm.
Compared to August 2025, the number of flights in August this year has increased by 5%. A total of 4,047 flights were performed.
Meanwhile, 6,787 passengers used Estonia’s regional airports in August, compared to 8,575 passengers in August last year. The decrease is due to the closure of Kuressaare Airport for reconstruction from the 10th to the 31st of August.
