There is still a possibility that the cancelled Pitbull concert in Latvia will be rescheduled, Economy Minister Viktors Valainis said on Wednesday after meeting with the Consumer Rights Protection Centre (PTAC) and the event organisers.
Speaking after the meeting, Valainis said discussions with the organisers indicate that moving the concert to a later date remains a realistic option, although it is now certain that the performance will not take place as originally scheduled. “At the moment, based on our discussions with the organisers, there is still a possibility that the concert will be rescheduled. What is absolutely clear is that it will not take place now,” the minister said. Valainis noted that ticket holders currently have two options. Under Latvian law, consumers are entitled to request a refund within 14 days of the concert’s cancellation, or they may choose to wait for a possible announcement regarding a rescheduled event, in which case their existing tickets would remain valid.
PTAC Director Zaiga Liepiņa said the consumer watchdog will continue monitoring the situation and cooperating with the company responsible for providing the service. She added that communication with the organiser has so far been positive and that the process is currently proceeding in accordance with the law. The PTAC has previously advised consumers to follow official updates issued by the concert organiser and the ticketing company, keep all documents and payment confirmations related to their ticket purchase, and, if a refund is not received within the legal deadline or other issues arise, first contact the organiser in writing in an attempt to resolve the matter before taking further legal action.
Ticket seller Biļešu serviss said on its website that it expects to publish detailed information on the refund process for Pitbull concert tickets within the next few days. The company said the organiser is continuing to work on a solution and is discussing several possible scenarios for the event’s future.
One of the options currently under consideration is rescheduling the concert,
although no final decision has yet been made. Biļešu serviss added that ticket holders will be informed as soon as more information becomes available. Updates will be sent to the email address used when purchasing tickets and published on the company’s website, including details of any rescheduled event or, if necessary, the refund procedure.
Before publication, the LETA news agency was unable to reach the concert organiser, FBI. As previously reported, organisers announced on the evening of the 28th of July that Pitbull’s concert, scheduled for Wednesday at Mežaparks Great Bandstand in Riga, had been cancelled. According to the organisers, the cancellation was caused by technical problems encountered during the construction of the concert infrastructure. “The remaining time is not sufficient to resolve the technical issues safely and in accordance with the technical standards required for the event,” the organisers said in a statement, adding that ticket holders will receive further information by email.
The concert was due to be part of Pitbull’s “I’m Back” tour. The American rapper has accumulated billions of streams, hundreds of gold and platinum certifications, and is known for international hits including “Give Me Everything,” “Timber,” “International Love,” and “Fireball.” Pitbull launched his career in the early 2000s, blending hip-hop, pop, Latin and dance music, and has collaborated with artists including Jennifer Lopez, Shakira, Gipsy Kings, Ricky Martin, and Enrique Iglesias.
