On Tuesday, 11 January, Latvia’s parliament approved the government’s changes to the order on the declaration of the state of emergency, extending the state of emergency in the country until 28 February, as reported by the Saeima’s press-service.
The state of emergency was declared in Latvia in order to halt the spread of Covid-19 and prevent the overloading of the healthcare sector, as well as to reduce mortality and ensure uninterrupted provision of important state functions and services.
Other amendments to the government order were approved as well. Additionally, the government clarified the order under which kindergarten children and
students aged 12 years and older who do not have a Covid-19 vaccination or recovery certificate will be able to participate in indoor sports activities.
