The LETA news agency has learned that the procedural actions are taking place as part of an investigation being carried out in cooperation with the European Public Prosecutor’s Office (EPPO).
Liepāja municipality’s Executive Director Ronalds Fricbergs, who represents the holder of the hospital’s shares, confirmed to LETA that KNAB officials are conducting procedural actions at Liepāja Regional Hospital. Taking into account that members of the hospital’s management board have signed non-disclosure agreements, no further information will be disclosed, Fricbergs stated.
LETA has so far been unable to reach the Chairman of the Board of Ogre District Hospital, Dainis Širovs (National Alliance), as his phone is switched off.
The EPPO is an institution of the European Union’s prosecution service. It is responsible for investigating, prosecuting, and bringing to trial crimes against the EU’s financial interests. Such crimes include, for example, various types of fraud, money laundering, corruption, and other offences.
