Leons Rusiņš, accused of killing a woman in front of her child and mother, is still being sought by police and has been placed on an international wanted list as a dangerous criminal, authorities confirmed.
As previously reported, there is also a version suggesting that he may be dead, but investigators continue to work with the assumption that he could still be alive. The investigation is ongoing, but the police are currently unable to provide further details.
On the 16th of April, 2023, in Jēkabpils Municipality, a woman born in 1983 was murdered in front of her child and mother. The killer was her former husband, Leons Rusiņš, who had been threatening and stalking her for months.
Despite repeated reports to the police, the woman was not protected.
Rusiņš had 19 criminal cases initiated against him — 18 of them for violating restraining orders related to protection against domestic violence.
Following the murder, the police failed to detain him, and although suicide has not been ruled out, no evidence confirming his death has been found.
