Price drops by 30 million euros — Vanšu Bridge renovation now offered for €70 million

Bidders have offered to carry out the reconstruction of the Vanšu Bridge for around 70 million euros, according to information published in the Electronic Procurement System.

These offers are about 30 million euros lower than the bids received last year.

As previously reported by LETA, two bidders have submitted offers in the tender for the bridge’s reconstruction.

The supplier consortium “Vanšu tilts,” which includes SIA Hanza Construction Group, SIA Tilts and SIA Baltijas mākslīgo būvju projektēšanas birojs “Vektors T”, submitted an offer of 69,802,998 euros.

Meanwhile, the consortium “BBVA,” which consists of SIA Baltijas būve, SIA Abora, the Latvian–Lithuanian joint venture SIA Viadukts and the general partnership 3A, has proposed to carry out the reconstruction for 70,327,026 euros.

The first tender, announced last year, was cancelled because only one bidder participated, and its offer exceeded the financial capacity of the Riga City Council.

According to LETA’s information,

the single bid in the first tender was about 100 million euros.

Following the outcome of that initial procurement, the terms of the open tender were revised and clarified to encourage broader interest from potential bidders and ensure stronger competition.

The reconstruction will be carried out using the “design and build” method, meaning one contractor will handle both the design and the construction, ensuring an integrated approach, coordinated work, and unified responsibility throughout the contract implementation.

The total contract term is set at up to 36 months — with up to 12 months planned for design and up to 24 months for construction works.

Riga has a total of 145 bridges, overpasses, and pedestrian tunnels. Many of them have reached the end of their service life, as evidenced by their visual condition and technical indicators.
