Meteorologists warn: Cyclone to bring prolonged rain and thunderstorms

On Thursday and Friday, the impact of a cyclone will be felt — starting Thursday afternoon, a broad precipitation zone will move in from the southwest and slowly head northeast, according to the Latvian Environment, Geology and Meteorology Centre.

On Thursday, it will bring prolonged rain to western regions, and by Friday it will reach the rest of the country. Localized heavy downpours and thunderstorms are expected in western regions on Friday afternoon. The weather will not only be rainy but also windy — on Thursday, southeast and east winds, and on Friday, southeast and south winds, will gust up to 15–18 m/s. Nighttime temperatures will remain between +11…+17°C. On Thursday, daytime highs will still exceed +20°C, but Friday will already be cooler.

The Meteorology Centre notes that rain will continue over the weekend — on Saturday it will rain in many places, and on Sunday in parts of the country. In the first half of Saturday night, western regions will still experience heavy showers and thunderstorms. Winds will be light to moderate from the south. Nighttime temperatures will drop to +11…+16°C, while daytime highs will reach +18…+21°C.

At the beginning of next week, several rain zones will pass over the country, accompanied by cooler air, making the weather feel more autumnal compared to the pleasant start of the month. Many areas will see rain clouds, winds will be gusty, and nighttime temperatures will range from +11…+16°C. On Monday and Tuesday, daytime highs will reach +15…+20°C, but Wednesday will be a few degrees cooler.
