In July, Latvia’s unemployment rate stood at 6.6%, higher than the European Union (EU) and euro area averages, according to data published on Monday by the EU statistics office Eurostat.
Among EU member states, higher unemployment rates in July were recorded in Spain (10.4%), Finland (9.5%), Sweden (8.7%), Greece (8%), France (7.6%), Estonia (7.2%), and Lithuania (7.1%).
Meanwhile, the lowest unemployment rates in July were registered in Malta (2.6%), the Czech Republic (2.8%), Slovenia (2.9%), Poland (3.1%), as well as Bulgaria and Germany (both at 3.7%).
On average, seasonally adjusted unemployment in the EU declined from 6% in June to 5.9% in July, while in the euro area it decreased from 6.3% to 6.2%.
According to Eurostat, in July there were 13.025 million unemployed people across the EU, of whom 10.805 million were in the euro area countries.
