A major Russian attack has hit a US-owned Flex factory in Mukachevo, western Ukraine, reportedly producing household appliances, the Kyiv Independent reports.
After the attack on the night of the 21st of August, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said it was an ordinary civilian factory that produced everyday household appliances such as coffee machines. According to Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha, the factory has no connection to the military industry. A factory employee also confirmed to the Kyiv Independent that no military equipment is produced there.
Russia last night sent 574 drones to Ukraine, mostly to the western regions of the country, far from the front line. The attacks have intensified after US President Donald Trump met with Russian dictator Vladimir Putin, and after Trump met with European leaders and Zelensky.
Despite what Trump said were successful talks, Moscow is continuing its strikes, which have also affected civilians.
At least 15 people were also injured in the attack in Mukachevo.
Factory workers said that around 800 employees usually work night shifts, but during the strike most of them went to shelters after the air raid alarm sounded. The company has a strict protocol for dealing with air raids.
Flex Ltd. is an international US company that is one of the largest franchised electronics manufacturers in the world. The company entered the Ukrainian market in 2000, and the factory in Mukachevo opened in 2012. It employs more than 2,600 people.
This is the first Russian attack on Mukachevo since the start of the full-scale war. The city is located about 50 kilometers from the Hungarian border.
