In May, Latvia recorded an unemployment rate of 6.9%, exceeding the average in both the European Union (EU) and the eurozone, according to data published on Wednesday by Eurostat, the EU’s statistical office.
Among EU member states, only Spain (10.8%), Finland (9%), Sweden (8.7%), Greece (7.9%), Estonia (7.8%), and France (7.1%) reported higher unemployment rates than Latvia in May. Lithuania’s unemployment rate in the fifth month of this year stood at 6.5%.
The lowest unemployment rates in May were observed in Malta (2.7%),
the Czech Republic (2.8%), Poland (3.3%), Bulgaria (3.5%), Cyprus (3.6%), and Germany (3.7%).
Across the EU, the seasonally adjusted unemployment rate remained steady at 5.9% in May, while in the eurozone it increased slightly from 6.2% to 6.3%. In May 2024, the EU unemployment rate was 6%, and in the eurozone, it was 6.4%.
