In these municipal elections, including those who participated in early voting, voter turnout has reached 46.2% of eligible voters, according to the latest data compiled by the Central Election Commission (CVK). These figures are not yet final, as data from all polling stations have not been received.
On Saturday alone, between 8:00 AM and 8:00 PM, 27% of eligible voters cast their ballots.
The highest turnout was in Riga, where 50.91% of eligible voters participated. The capital was followed by Vidzeme with 47.16%, Zemgale with 43.28%, and both Kurzeme and Latgale with 41.16% voter turnout.
During the five days of early voting, 16.11% of eligible voters participated in the elections.
As previously reported, in the last municipal elections held in June 2021, elections were not held in Riga — where the city council had been elected in a special election the previous year — nor in Rēzekne Municipality and Varakļāni Municipality, where elections were postponed due to a Constitutional Court ruling. Those elections were later held in September 2021. Currently, Varakļāni Municipality has been incorporated into Madona Municipality and now belongs to the Vidzeme electoral district, whereas previously it was part of the Latgale electoral district.
In total, 1,377,183 Latvian citizens were eligible to vote in these municipal elections.
This year, voters were able to cast their ballots at 948 polling stations across Latvia.
On Saturday, voting was open from 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM.
Unlike in previous municipal elections, this year voters were allowed to vote at any polling station within their municipality.
