Air temperature will remain above 0° C in Latvia this week. On Friday and Saturday daytime air temperature will reach +5° C… +6° C but next week air temperature will drop as far as -25° C… -27° C, according to Latvia’s Environment, Geology and Meteorology Centre.
On Friday western territories will experience partly cloudy weather, whereas in eastern areas there will be more clouds and precipitation – rain, wet snow and snow.
The wind will blow from the north-west and west, reaching a speed of up to 15 m/sec.
Air temperature at night and during the day will be -1° C… +6° C.
On Saturday there will be more clouds. The sky will clear only in the west. Snowing is expected in eastern territories at night. Many central and Eastern regions will experience precipitation – rain, wet snow and even snow in the east. Minimal air temperature at night will be between -2° C in the east and +5° C along the coast. Maximum daytime air temperature will be +2° C… +7° C.
On Sunday it will rain. Eastern territories will experience snowfall. The wind will blow from the north-west, reaching a speed of 15-18 m/sec. Gradually it will become colder and air temperature at night will hover slightly above 0° C. Daytime air temperature will start dropping and eastern territories will start experiencing negative air temperatures.
With the air becoming colder and air temperature dropping below 0° C, roads will become icy and slippery.
Next week very cold masses of air will reach Latvia, causing air temperature to drop considerably.
While on Monday daytime air temperature will be -1° C… -7° C, from there onward air temperature will range from -5° C along the coast to -15° C in Latvia’s eastern territories. At night air temperature will drop below -20° C in many parts of Latvia. With clear sky, however, air temperature will drop as far as -25° C… -27° C.
Weather will be similar on Christmas. At night air temperature in Latvia will drop as far as -20° C… -25° C. Some areas will experience snowfall.
