Warm but wet weekend ahead – rain and thunderstorms expected

On Saturday, skies will be mostly cloudy, though some clearing is expected, especially in the western parts of Latvia. Rain is forecast for a large portion of the country. A light to moderate east to northeast wind will blow. Air temperatures will rise to between +10°C and +15°C, according to the Latvian Environment, Geology and Meteorology Centre.

Sunday will bring similar weather – mostly cloudy skies with rain expected across most of the territory, some of it prolonged. In the afternoon, thunderstorms are possible in some areas. Fog may develop during the night. A light to moderate northeast to east wind will strengthen during the day, reaching gusts of up to 14 m/s along the Kurzeme coast in the evening. Nighttime temperatures will remain between +7°C and +10°C, with daytime temperatures similar to Saturday.

Overnight into Monday, the skies will be cloudy but will begin to clear during the day. Rain is expected in most of the country at night but will be limited to isolated areas by day. Thunderstorms are possible during the first half of the night. A light to moderate north to northwest wind will blow, with gusts up to 14 m/s along the coast. Nighttime temperatures will drop to +7°C to +11°C, while daytime temperatures will rise to +13°C to +18°C, though coastal areas in Kurzeme will be slightly cooler at +11°C to +13°C.
