Frost, wind, and +20°C warmth – a week of changing weather in Latvia

At the beginning of this week, as a warmer air mass gradually moves into Latvia, daytime temperatures will again rise to +10…+15°C in many areas, while nighttime temperatures will mostly stay between +2…+7°C. However, frost is still expected on some nights, according to the Latvian Environment, Geology and Meteorology Centre.

On Tuesday night, rain is expected over most of the country, and during the day, there will be occasional showers mainly in the eastern regions. A moderate southwesterly to westerly wind will blow, shifting to a northwesterly direction in the morning. Wind gusts at night along the coast and by midday in central and eastern areas will reach 15–17 m/s. During the night, temperatures will remain between +4…+9°C, while daytime highs will reach +12…+17°C, though along the coast temperatures will stay between +9…+14°C.

Throughout the week, weather conditions will be shaped by the activity of several cyclones, bringing mostly cloudy skies as multiple precipitation zones pass through the country, bringing rain. However, at times, the sun will break through the clouds.

At the start and end of the week, westerly winds will dominate, often becoming gusty, while in the middle of the week, the wind will mostly blow from the south. Daytime temperatures will mostly reach +11…+16°C, and Friday could be especially warm, with temperatures reaching up to +20°C in some places. On a few nights, temperatures may approach or even drop below 0°C, resulting in frost.

Current forecasts suggest that although the upcoming holiday weekend will start with warmer and drier weather, it will soon turn cooler, windier, and wetter.
