Wind, wet snow, and then a sudden warm spell: what weather awaits us?

On Thursday and Friday, the skies will mostly be overcast, with occasional clear spells. Precipitation is expected across most of the country—mainly snow and wet snow, according to the Latvian Environment, Geology and Meteorology Centre.

In some regions, the snow cover will increase by 2–4 cm, and during snowfall, visibility may temporarily drop to 500–1000 meters.

On Thursday, a moderate to moderately strong north to northwesterly wind will blow, with gusts reaching 15–19 m/s. By evening, the wind will shift to come from the west and will ease.
On Friday, a moderate to moderately strong southerly to southwesterly wind is expected, shifting to a westerly to northwesterly direction in the morning, with gusts reaching 15–16 m/s.

At night, minimum air temperatures will range between 0 and -5°C. In western regions on Friday, temperatures will be between -1 and +3°C. During daylight hours, temperatures will rise to between +1 and +6°C, reaching up to +10°C in the west on Friday.

Meteorologists note that over the weekend, skies will remain mostly cloudy, bringing light precipitation to much of the country—mainly rain, but some areas may see wet snow at night. The wind will continue to be gusty in many places, reaching up to 15–16 m/s.
On Saturday night, temperatures will still fall below 0°C in many areas, staying around -2 to +2°C along the coast.

However, by Sunday night, temperatures will be above zero across the entire country. On Sunday during the day, temperatures in some areas may reach as high as +15°C. The warm weather is expected to continue into the beginning of next week.
