Covid-19 and flu infection rates on a rise in Latvia

This week flu and Covid-19 infection rates in Latvia went up slightly. There are more people infected with Covid-19, however. 63 patients were hospitalised, and three people died, according to data from the Disease Prevention and Control Centre (SPKC).

Last week, general practitioners registered 27 cases of flu, which is 11 more than the week prior.

Two patients are between five and 14 years of age, 15 are between 15 and 64, and ten patients are older than 65.

Flu infection cases were registered in Jūrmala, Liepāja and Rīga. Similarly to last season, flu activity in Latvia remains very low. Nevertheless, it is slightly higher when compared to the previous season, SPKC reports.

Last week there were 57 Covid-19 infection cases confirmed, which is seven or 10.9% less than a week prior.

677 tests were performed over the course of the week. This is 18.1% less than a week prior. The proportion of positive test results went up, reaching 8.4%.

63 new patients were hospitalised with Covid-19 (84 a week prior). In total, there were 120 patients with Covid-19 being treated in various hospitals in Latvia last week. For 46.7% of them Covid-19 was the main diagnosis.

Last week there were three deaths of Covid-19 patients. In the last five weeks there were 38 deaths of Covid-19 patients.

SPKC also reports that 101 patients were diagnosed with lung fever last week.
