The nomination to the post of Minister of Foreign Affairs is the high point of my diplomatic career, said Latvian diplomat Baiba Braže in an interview to TV3.
Braže said she was approached as a candidate for the minister’s post as someone with knowledge, a fighter’s character and ability “to start working from day one”.
She was approached with a proposal to join Unity party as well, adding that this is under consideration and “a decision will come at some point”. However, this is not a requirement to get the post.
Braže stressed again that the main priorities are clear – promoting national security and wealth.
As previously reported, after several weeks of political consultations within New Unity, Latvian Prime Minister Evika Siliņa decided to propose Braže for the vacant post of Latvian Minister of Foreign Affairs. Parties members of the ruling coalition have already voiced support for her.
Braže was unofficially mentioned as the most believable candidate immediately after Krišjānis Kariņš announced his decision to step down from the minister’s post.
