Latvian Ministry of Environment Protection and Regional Development (VARAM) is currently working on a legislative draft to dismiss Rēzekne municipal council. This is why the future decisions from the Ministry of Finance regarding possible loans for this municipality will depend on the report from VARAM, ministry’s representatives say.
The ministry stresses that the 13th February decision by the Cabinet of Ministers regarding the allocation of a loan to Rēzekne also lists three conditions – approval of a deficit-free budget, relocation of the council’s account to the State Treasury, as well as a decision from Rēzekne municipal council to ensure municipal officials are not able to take on commitments without financial coverage.
Rēzekne municipal council finally approved the city’s budget on Thursday, the 7th of March.
Regulations require municipalities to approve budgets within two months of the state budget’s approval.
