China’s Foreign Ministry said on Tuesday, the 5th of December, that its visa-free travel policy has made a huge difference in making travellers’ lives easier as more and more travellers come to the country, reports Reuters.
“In the future, the Foreign Ministry will continue to adjust the visa policy to create more favourable conditions and further facilitate cross-border travel,” ministry spokesman Wang Wenbin told a news conference when asked for an update on tourism after China announced it would allow residents of several European countries and Malaysia to enter China without visas.
Visa-free travel for France, Italy, Germany, the Netherlands, Spain, and Malaysia entered into force on the 1st of December
and the ministry, citing immigration data, had said that in the first three days of the month, around 7000 of the nearly 18 000 travellers entering China were directly from countries covered by the visa-free regime.
Compared to the last day of November, the average number of tourists per day from these countries in the first three days of December increased by 39%, said Wang.
The German ambassador to China has hoped that China would extend the visa-free regime to all EU Member States.
