Latvia’s Prime Minister Krišjānis Kariņš has submitted a request to the Ministry of Environment Protection and Regional Development and Ministry of Agriculture, asking them to compile information about the damages caused by the recent thunderstorm in the country, according to the PM’s post on social network.
Kariņš also asked the two ministries to compile information on necessary government action in response to the storm.
As previously reported, Latvian State Environment, Geology and Meteorology Centre has declared red level warning in the country’s western and central parts due to to the heavy rain, strong wind, large hail and extremely dangerous thunderstorms.
The warning will remain in effect until 19:00 p.m. local time.
Central and eastern parts of the country will be at risk of a thunderstorm in the second half of the day, meteorologists warn. The storm may continue in Vidzeme and Latgale on the night to Tuesday as well.
