Alar Karis, the Estonian President-elect, has voiced his views about the state of unity of the Estonian nation and its prospects in the field of education, ERR broadcaster reports.
Karis was elected by the Riigikogu to become the sixth Estonian President on Tuesday, August 31. Last week, in an interview with ERR’s Otse uudistemajast broadcast, the current director of the Estonian National Museum said Estonia could be: «Not among the five countries with the most educated people, but the country with the most educated people. We have the prerequisites for that.»

Addressing the issue of national unity, Karis evaluated that contrary to the term «seamless society» mentioned by current Estonian President Kersti Kaljulaid, Estonian society must be «sewn together» as people are divided by many different issues.
Education over restrictions
As to the reoccurring coronavirus restrictions Alar Karis evaluated that restrictions should not be imposed on people. Instead, people should be educated about the issue. According to his logic, if the epidemiological restrictions are not fulfilled, people lack understanding of why the restrictions are necessary.
