Conservative voters choose Florida governor over Trump

A large number of US voters, who are Republican supporters, prefer Florida Governor Ron de Santis to Donald Trump, writes the BBC.
56% of conservative voters would choose to vote for Florida governor Ron DeSantis, compared to 33% who are willing to cast their vote for former President Donald Trump. In November, Trump announced the start of the pre-election campaign for the elections scheduled for 2024.

The survey conducted jointly by Suffolk University and USA Today also found that the current US president, Joe Biden, is rated higher than Trump by voters.

The poll results follow an unexpected performance in the US midterm elections, where Republicans fell short of the expected outright victory.
David Paleologos, director of the Center for Policy Research at Suffolk University, said: «DeSantis outpolls Trump not only among the general electorate but also among these Republican-leaning voters who have been the former president’s base. Republicans and conservative independents increasingly want Trumpism without Trump.»
The results of the poll released on December 13 show that only 30% of voters would be ready to vote for Trump, compared to 46% who would choose Biden. However, the survey also revealed that 60% of Americans would be satisfied if neither Trump nor Biden participated in the 2024 elections.
