There are multiple prosecutors who refuse getting vaccinated for Covid-19. Latvia’s Prosecutor General Juris Stukāns hopes they «wise up» by mid-November.
About 80% of people working at the office of the prosecutor have been vaccinated for Covid-19 so far. After the Latvian government made vaccination compulsory for all workers of the public sector and introduced the condition for only vaccinated or recovered people to continue their work after 15 November, multiple employees of the office of the prosecutor decided to vaccinate. There are 450 prosecutors and about 300 employees working at prosecutor offices, as Saeima’s Defence, Internal Affairs and Corruption Prevention Committee was told by the prosecutor general.
Most of the employees who are not vaccinated for Covid-19 are janitors. Nevertheless, there are a couple of prosecutors as well.

«Janitors are no problem. I’ve never seen her cleaning the office when someone is inside. People are not at risk then. But now there are several prosecutors who refuse to vaccinate. This is likely their own misunderstanding. We cannot force them, so we will wait for 15 November. I believe they will wise up and remember they are officials,» stresses Stukāns.
The prosecutor general said he sees no way for a non-vaccinated or non-recovered prosecutor to meet with the accused, witnesses or victims. He also stressed that a prosecutor is a state official whose wage is paid from the taxes paid by victims and witnesses involved in criminal procedures.
Although some prosecutors refuse to vaccinate, this does not put at risk the work done by the office of the prosecutor. If some prosecutors have to be suspended and «if they can make do without a wage for a time, then it is their choice,» said Stukāns.
