Allies to supply 50 million LED bulbs to Ukraine

On the 13th of December, Kyiv’s allies decided to allocate one billion euros for aid and also promised to deliver energy-efficient LED bulbs to reduce energy consumption, Reuters writes.
At a meeting hosted by France, Western countries discussed how to help Ukraine during the freezingly cold winter months.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said that 50 million LED bulbs would significantly reduce the energy deficit in Ukraine. The European Commission has indicated that it can supply up to 30 million LED bulbs. European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said: «I hope that other partners will follow us.»

She added that the entire required amount of LED bulbs would save one gigawatt of energy.

Russia has been attacking Ukraine’s energy infrastructure since October, and at least half of it has been severely damaged. Yulia Svyridenko, The Minister of Economy of Ukraine, informed that an aid program is planned to be launched soon, which will allow residents to get LED bulbs for household use, and that will allow significantly reduce consumption. Svyridenko stated that Ukraine works in two directions. First, it tries to increase the production and supply of electricity. Second – Ukraine tries to save as much energy as possible.
