According to current weather forecasts, the third day of Advent will come with 20 cm of snow in Latvia. In the country’s eastern regions it is possible the thickness of snow may reach 30 cm, according to Latvian State Environment, Geology and Meteorology Centre.
The sky will be covered by a thick layer of clouds. Atmospheric pressure will go down, and two active cyclones will pass through Latvia’s territory from the south in the middle of the week. This means frequent precipitation – snow and wet snow.
On Monday, the 12th of December, weather in Latvia will be dictated by low atmospheric pressure. Ice may form on roads in multiple areas in the country.
Motorists are advised to be very careful when driving!
Daytime air temperature will stay at +1° C… -4° C (-4° C… -6° C in eastern regions).
On Tuesday weather conditions in Latvia will be affected by the south-eastern part of an active cyclone. This means more snow. At times the layer of snow will increase by 5 cm. In some regions roads may become iced over, which means driving conditions will remain complicated and potentially dangerous. The wind will blow from the south-east, reaching a speed of 1-5 m/sec. Night-time air temperature will stay at -1° C… -5° C, whereas daytime air temperature will stay at +1° C… -3° C.
On Wednesday, the 14th of December, a cyclone will pass through Latvia’s territory from the south. Lasting snowfall is expected in the entire country, as well as wet snow. This will increase the thickness of snow by 5-9 cm in some areas around Latvia. Roads will become icy and slippery. Wind speed will reach 1-5 m/sec. Minimal air temperature at night will be +1° C… -3° C, whereas maximum daytime air temperature will reach -1° C… +3° C.
The sky will become clear up at times on Thursday. Wind speed along the coast may reach 15-17 m/sec. Many areas will experience snowfall. Air temperature will reach -2° C… +2° C. On the night to Friday, 16 December, air temperature will drop to -2° C… -8° C.
Because air temperature will remain low and wind speed will increase, it may feel like it is colder outside. Residents are advised to dress warm when going outside. On the weekend, according to current weather forecasts, a new cyclone will pass through Latvia, bringing snow and wet snow.
