20 000 contraband cigarettes found on the Bank of Daugava River near Belarusian border

On Sunday, the 24th of March, border guards found 20 000 contraband cigarettes on the Latvian-Belarusian border on the bank of Daugava River, as reported by Latvian State Border Guard.
After receiving information about illegal transportation of tobacco products, border guards found four bundles wrapped in white polyethylene film on the bank of Daugava River in Saliena Parish of Augšdaugava County.
In those bundles border guards found 20 000 “Premjer” cigarettes bearing Belarusian excise stamps.
Cigarettes were handed over to State Police, who then commenced a criminal procedure over illegal transportation of tobacco products.
