112 youngsters selected for mandatory military service in Latvia ignore notifications

After the lottery organised to select additional conscripts for mandatory military service in Latvia it was discovered that 112 randomly selected youngsters did not arrive for health checks, as LETA was told by the Ministry of Defence.
On the 23rd of January a total of 300 conscripts were selected using a random number generator. Once health checks are done, 150 of them will be drafted into military service.
280 invitations to come for a health check were sent out in total because 20 conscripts had recently changed addresses, are already in active service or there were other reasons why notifications were not sent.
168 youngsters responded to notifications. 112 did not respond to the initial notification, so repeated notifications were sent. The ministry will decide what measures to take if youngsters fail to respond after repeated notifications.
