ZZS member: I don’t want any minister’s post in the new government

There has been information reported in the public space recently that once the chairman of the Constitutional Court and member of the Union of Greens and Farmers (ZZS) Gunārs Kūtris could potentially take the post of Minister of Culture is nothing more than a rumour.
Kūtris told LETA no one approached him with such an offer.
He said he does not want any minister’s seat in the new government, adding that during elections he was prepared to serve as Minister of Justice, because that is the topic he knows well.
Kūtris said seats in ministries are not distributed yet, and ZZS has yet to receive any official offer to take over any ministries.

“We have not discussed any seats in our faction at all,” claimed the politician.

Kūtris said the clarity as to which ministries could be offered to ZZS may come by Sunday, the 10th of September. On Monday, the 11th of September, the part will discuss who could take those posts. “Knowing that both the Ministry of Justice and Ministry of the Interior are under New Unity, I can put concerns to rest – they will not be offered to me,” said the ZZS politician.

The politician said he is optimistic about the new government getting approved by mid-September.

According to him, on Monday there should be news with names and posts. If prime minister candidate Evika Siliņa accepts them, the Saeima could vote on the government on Thursday, the 14th of October.
LETA previously reported that both in the public space and behind the scenes there have been assumptions voiced about the possible candidates to take over ministries and the Saeima speaker’s post.
It is possible the Union of Greens and Farmers may want to take over the Ministry of Culture. However, at the moment it is unknown which party could get this ministry.
LTV programme Panorāma, referencing available information, reported that Kūtris is among the potential candidates to become Latvia’s next Minister of Culture.
