It is important to focus on the topics outlined by PM Krišjānis Kariņš. There is not need to rush things, says Union of Greens and Farmers (ZZS) Saeima faction chairman Viktors Valainis.
He told the media that the head of the Latvian government has put forth five important topics for discussions, and ZZS will focus on them in the negotiation process while also putting forward their own proposals.
According to the politician, once all topics have been discussed it will be necessary to understand what the PM has in mind for the government to accomplish existing tasks.
At the same time, Valainis allows for the possibility of there being topics that may or may not require additional discussions. According to him, there is no need to rush things, as topics are fairly serious.
“The topics we have to tackle have spent years without solutions. A week here or there won’t affect processes much,” said the politician.
This week’s negotiations organised by New Unity will focus on topics related to education and healthcare. Until now negotiations have covered three topics – sufficient labour force, capital market and human rights-related topics.
Kariņš did invite five parties to participate in negotiations, but the Combined List and National Alliance refused the invitation.
This means that so far negotiations have been held with New Unity, Union of Greens and Farmers and Progressive party.
As previously reported, the current ruling coalition in Latvia consists of New Unity, National Alliance and Combined List. After the recent presidential elections, however,
Kariņš initiated negotiations about a possible expansion of the coalition with ZZS and Progressive Party, to which the Combined List and National Alliance object.
