Zoom asks employees to return to the office

The company, whose name is almost synonymous with remote work, Zoom, has made a decision that foresees the employees to work in the office, writes the BBC.
The company has said it believes a “structured hybrid approach” is most effective, with employees living up to 80 kilometers from the office being required to come there at least twice a week.
Amazon and Disney have also reduced the number of days employees can work remotely. Meanwhile, surveys show that employees would still like to retain the option to work at least partially from home.

In the US, where Zoom is headquartered, about 12% of employees worked remotely, and another 29% used a hybrid approach,

according to a survey by Stanford University. Surveys conducted by the Office for National Statistics in the UK have shown a similar result.
There was a time when Zoom promised that remote work was here to stay. Now the tech company has announced that the new approach will be rolled out in August and September. However, Zoom said it will still hire the most talented people, regardless of location.
At the end of January 2023, Zoom employed about 8,400 people, about half of them in the United States. Zoom employs around 200 people in Great Britain, where it recently opened a new office in London.
Zoom has stated that the new approach will allow the company to better apply its technology, continue to create innovations and provide better support to customers.

A year ago, in September 2022, only 1% of Zoom employees worked in offices on a daily basis, 75% worked remotely,

and the rest used a hybrid model. The company is feeling increasing pressure at a time when rivals such as Microsoft are adding to their video communications offerings.
